BertieThe Little French Donkey Farm is situated in a small, rural village in the Charente, South West France. It is a region famous for Limousin cattle, vineyards, chestnut woods and the wonderful Baudet de Poitou donkey. Not so many years ago, donkeys and mules played an important role in the day to day lives of country people, pulling carts and machinery, carrying produce to market and taking children to school. It is for these reasons that the donkey is regarded with such affection and maintains an important role in the heritage of the area.

Here at the Little French Donkey Farm we enjoy our life looking after our donkeys and other animals. We made the move from Snowdonia, North Wales to the Charente S.W. France several years ago, accompanied by our two donkeys Mari and Precious. In addition we now have Boy, the foal of Precious and two rescue donkeys Manon and her foal Bertie. The daily routine revolves around them and our two dogs. Enzo a Border Terrier and Frida a Teckel Poil Dur, two cats Freddie and Fifi and an assortment of hens complete our animal family.

The sometimes happy, sometimes tragic stories you hear about donkeys and our own experiences inspired me to write and illustrate the "Precious Series" of childrens stories.
